Nunavut has no territorial sales tax, so taxable sales carry only the federal 5% GST. The CRA's rate table shows Nunavut at 5% GST and 0% PST.
The Canada Revenue Agency administers the GST. For an Iqaluit business, that means one federal account and one rate on invoices for sales made in the territory.
Small suppliers do not have to register. Once your taxable sales pass $30,000 in a single calendar quarter or over four consecutive calendar quarters, you must register with the CRA and charge 5% GST. Our registration guide has the details.
Self-employed taxi and commercial ride-sharing drivers are an exception and must register even below $30,000. Registered businesses can use the tax calendar to keep track of filing dates.
Place-of-supply rules work in both directions. Under the CRA's rules, goods are generally taxed in the province or territory where they are delivered. A supplier in Ontario shipping goods to a customer in Nunavut should therefore charge 5% GST, not Ontario's 13% HST, which is worth checking on invoices from southern suppliers.
When a Nunavut business sells outward, the same rule applies: goods delivered to Nova Scotia take 14% HST, and most services billed to a Toronto address take 13%. The rates by province guide covers provinces with a separate provincial tax.
No. Nunavut has no territorial sales tax, so only the 5% GST applies to taxable sales.

Goods are generally taxed where they are delivered, so goods delivered in Nunavut should carry 5% GST. Ask the seller to check the shipping address used for tax.
Yes, if you are registered. Alberta has no provincial sales tax, so an Alberta client is charged 5% GST.
When taxable sales pass $30,000 in one calendar quarter or over four consecutive calendar quarters, unless an exception such as taxi services applies earlier.
