Wagepoint is our top-rated payroll tool for most small Canadian employers: it publishes simple CAD pricing, includes CRA remittances, T4s, and ROEs on both plans, and syncs with QuickBooks Online, Xero, and FreshBooks. Keep in mind that the cheaper plan includes one pay run a month, that direct deposit needs a few working days of lead time, and that Quebec support launched on September 22, 2026.
This review is for owners in Canada who are about to hire a first employee, or who are running payroll by hand or through a bookkeeper and want to know whether Wagepoint covers what the CRA and Service Canada expect of you.
How we evaluated
This is a research-based review. We did not run payroll in Wagepoint. We read Wagepoint's pricing page, product pages, accountant and partner pages, contact page, and its September 2026 Quebec announcement, and we checked the underlying payroll rules against canada.ca.
We looked at the things a Canadian employer actually has to get right:
- Monthly cost in CAD at list price, split into the base fee and the per-employee fee
- CRA source deduction remittances and remittance schedules
- Year-end T4, T4A, and (for Quebec) RL-1 slips
- Record of Employment (ROE) filing with Service Canada
- Direct deposit timing
- Vacation pay, statutory holiday pay, and workers' compensation reporting
- Accounting integrations, support hours, and features for bookkeepers
Prices are regular list prices with monthly billing, checked September 2026. Payroll rules here are general information, not advice. Talk to an accountant or payroll professional about your own situation before your first pay run.
Pricing in Canada
Wagepoint has two plans, both billed monthly in Canadian dollars: Solo at CAD $20/month plus $4 per employee or contractor, and Unlimited at CAD $40/month plus $6 per employee or contractor. The only differences between them are how often you can pay people and how many pay groups you can have.
| Feature | Solo | Unlimited |
|---|---|---|
| Base fee (CAD/month) | $20 | $40 |
| Per employee or contractor (CAD/month) | $4 | $6 |
| Pay runs | 1 per month | Unlimited |
| Pay groups | 1 | Unlimited |
| Off-cycle payrolls | Within the 1 per month limit | Unlimited |
| Direct deposit | ||
| CRA remittances | ||
| T4 and T4A slips, no extra year-end fee | ||
| ROE submissions | ||
| QuickBooks Online, Xero, FreshBooks sync | ||
| Phone support included |
Wagepoint's pricing page says there are no contracts and no hidden fees, that year-end tax forms are included at no extra cost, and that you can change your payroll frequency and plan at any time. You are invoiced monthly for the subscription plus per-employee fees. The 14-day free trial includes all features, and you can run real payroll during the trial once your company is verified.
What Wagepoint costs for 1, 5, and 10 employees
For a small team, Wagepoint works out to between CAD $24 and CAD $100 a month depending on headcount and plan. Here is the arithmetic at list price, before any sales tax:
| Employees | Solo (CAD/month) | Unlimited (CAD/month) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | $20 + (1 × $4) = $24 | $40 + (1 × $6) = $46 |
| 5 | $20 + (5 × $4) = $40 | $40 + (5 × $6) = $70 |
| 10 | $20 + (10 × $4) = $60 | $40 + (10 × $6) = $100 |
Wagepoint's own example matches: it says a team of five on Unlimited comes to around $70/month. Over a year, that is $840. Remember that contractors you pay through Wagepoint count toward the per-person fee too, so add them to your headcount when you estimate.
Does Wagepoint handle CRA remittances and year-end slips?
Yes. Wagepoint states that it calculates and submits your CRA remittances on your behalf, and that at year end it generates T4 and T4A slips and files them electronically with the CRA, at no extra charge on either plan.
On the remittance side, Wagepoint's plan comparison lists federal and provincial or territorial income tax, EI, and CPP, with monthly and accelerated remittance schedules. For context, the CRA sets the due date by your remitter type: regular remitters pay by the 15th of the following month, accelerated remitters pay two or more times a month, and some small employers qualify to remit quarterly. Wagepoint's pricing page lists monthly and accelerated schedules and does not mention quarterly remitting, so if you are a quarterly remitter, ask Wagepoint how it handles your schedule before you sign up.
For year end, T4 and T4A slips are due by the last day of February following the calendar year they cover. If that day falls on a weekend or public holiday, the CRA accepts the return on the next business day. Wagepoint handles employees and contractors in the same pay run, with T4s going to employees and T4As to contractors, according to its construction and trades page.
You remain the employer of record. You still need your own CRA payroll program account, and the legal responsibility for accurate deductions stays with you. For the terms, see our glossary entries on CPP, EI, and T4 slips.
Does Wagepoint file Records of Employment?
Yes. Wagepoint says ROEs can be issued directly in the platform and are submitted electronically to Service Canada on your behalf, on both plans.
This matters because the deadline is short. For employees paid weekly, biweekly, or semi-monthly, Service Canada requires the electronic ROE no later than 5 calendar days after the end of the pay period in which the interruption of earnings happened. For monthly pay periods, the deadline is the earlier of 5 calendar days after the end of that pay period or 15 calendar days after the first day of the interruption. See our glossary entry on the Record of Employment for more.
Wagepoint's trades page also describes a seasonal workflow: deactivate a worker at the end of the season and issue the ROE, then reactivate the same record when they return.
How long does Wagepoint direct deposit take?
Direct deposit runs on a set schedule. Wagepoint's payroll guidance says to process payroll by 12 pm ET, three to five working days before the pay date, and to allow extra time when a bank holiday falls in the processing window.
That lead time is the main thing to plan around. If you run payroll on a Monday for a Friday payday, you are at the edge of that window, so build the deadline into your routine or use Wagepoint's Auto-run feature, which its payroll page describes as keeping payroll running on schedule. Both plans include direct deposit at no extra per-deposit charge on the pricing page.
Vacation pay, stat holidays, and workers' compensation
Wagepoint lists vacation accruals, statutory holiday pay, workers' compensation (WCB/WSIB), and Ontario and British Columbia Employer Health Tax among the compliance features on both plans. Those rules differ by province, and Wagepoint says it applies federal and provincial rules across all provinces and territories.
Vacation pay. Wagepoint's payroll page says it handles vacation accruals automatically alongside regular pay and employer contributions. You still need to set each employee's vacation entitlement correctly, since provincial minimums depend on the province and years of service.
Statutory holiday pay. Wagepoint's trades page notes that stat holiday pay is based on average earnings over a reference period and that the formula changes by province. For Quebec, the September 2026 launch specifically covers Quebec statutory holiday pay using the 1/20 rule.
Workers' compensation. Wagepoint lists WCB/WSIB calculations and a WCB/WSIB report. Its pages describe this as calculation and reporting, not as paying your premiums to the board.
Does Wagepoint support Quebec payroll?
Yes, as of September 22, 2026. On that date Wagepoint announced Quebec payroll covering Revenu Québec remittances, CNESST, Health Services Fund, QPP and QPP2, and QPIP calculations and remittances, RL-1 reporting, and Quebec statutory holiday pay, included at no additional cost.
The announcement also describes a complete workflow in English or French, set at the user level. Before this launch, Wagepoint did not cover Quebec, so employers with staff in Quebec had to use a second system.
Integrations: QuickBooks Online, Xero, and FreshBooks
Wagepoint lists two-way integrations with QuickBooks Online, Xero, and FreshBooks, and says payroll data syncs to your accounting software after every pay run. Integrations are included on both plans.
This is one of Wagepoint's strongest points for Canadian small businesses. Xero does not run its own payroll in Canada, and its Canadian payroll page points to partner apps, Wagepoint among them. If you use QuickBooks Online, you can choose between Wagepoint and QuickBooks' own payroll add-on (see Wagepoint vs QuickBooks Payroll). If you have not picked accounting software yet, our best accounting software for Canada review covers the options.
Wagepoint also has an employee portal where staff complete TD1 forms, update banking details, and download paystubs and T4s, and a My Wagepoint app where employees add time entries that flow into payroll.
Support and features for bookkeepers
Wagepoint support is included on every plan by phone at 1-877-757-2272, Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm ET, with email and a help centre also listed. Wagepoint is based in Calgary and says it serves only businesses in Canada.
Phone support is listed for weekdays, so plan any Saturday pay runs around those hours.
For accountants and bookkeepers, Wagepoint runs a partner program called WagePro+. It is free to join, and partners can run their own firm's payroll on Wagepoint at no cost. Partners get one dashboard across all clients with multi-admin access, can either run payroll for clients or let clients run it themselves, and can bill clients directly or pass costs through. Wagepoint advertises partner discounts of up to 20% as a firm's client base grows, plus CPD-eligible training and a partner directory listing. Wagepoint says more than 2,000 accounting and bookkeeping firms use it.
If your bookkeeper is already a Wagepoint partner, ask how they bill for it before you sign up on your own, since their pricing may differ from list price.
What we like and what to know

Who Wagepoint is for (and when another option fits better)
Wagepoint fits most small Canadian employers that want payroll handled as a standalone service at a published price. If you want payroll inside your accounting ledger, need same-week deposits, or want a provider to pay WCB for you, another option may fit better.
Good fit:
- Owners making a first hire who want remittances, T4s, and ROEs covered without a payroll background
- Businesses that keep their books in Xero or FreshBooks and want payroll to sync into them
- Owners who pay once a month and can use Solo (CAD $24/month for one employee)
- Bookkeepers managing payroll for several clients
- Seasonal businesses, such as trades and hospitality, that deactivate and reactivate workers each year
Another option may fit better if:
- Your books are in QuickBooks Online and you would rather keep payroll in the same ledger with no sync
- You have Quebec staff today and want a provider with a longer Quebec track record
- You want workers' compensation premiums paid for you, not just calculated
- You want HR tools such as scheduling and benefits in the same platform
Alternatives to Wagepoint
The main alternatives are QuickBooks Online Payroll if you already use QuickBooks, and Payworks if you want broader filing coverage and HR modules. Our best payroll software in Canada roundup compares them side by side.
QuickBooks Online Payroll keeps payroll inside QuickBooks accounting. Intuit lists a 30-day free trial, and payroll submitted before 5 pm PT deposits within 2 business days. Read Wagepoint vs QuickBooks Payroll and FreshBooks vs QuickBooks in Canada for the tradeoffs.
Payworks is a Canadian payroll provider whose Auto Filing includes tax remittances and WCB premiums. Pricing is quote-based and not published, so you need a quote to compare it with Wagepoint.
If you are still setting up the business, our guides to sole proprietorship vs corporation and registering for GST/HST cover the steps that usually come before your first hire.
Our verdict
4.5Wagepoint is the payroll tool we would point most small Canadian employers to first. Its CAD pricing is published and low (CAD $40/month for 5 employees on Solo, CAD $70/month on Unlimited), both plans include CRA remittances, T4 and T4A slips, and ROE filing, year-end forms cost nothing extra, and it syncs with QuickBooks Online, Xero, and FreshBooks. Pay monthly and choose Solo; pay biweekly or more often and choose Unlimited. Quebec employers now have the option too, but since that support launched in late September 2026, confirm your setup first. If you want payroll inside your QuickBooks ledger or need WCB premiums paid for you, compare QuickBooks Payroll or Payworks before deciding.
